Calgary's trivia scene is overwhelmingly independent. 24 of the city's 26 active venues run their own shows without a trivia company behind them, which makes it one of the most grassroots pub quiz markets in North America. Wiseguy Trivia has a single venue at The Unicorn on 8th Avenue SW, and Tipsy Trivia hosts at St. Louis Bar & Grill in the southwest, but those are the exceptions. The rest is venue-driven programming, and that gives Calgary's scene a distinctly local, no-two-nights-alike quality. Wednesday is the peak night by a wide margin, with about nine venues running games. The spread covers Bottlescrew Bill's on 10th Avenue, LOCAL Public Eatery in the Barclay district, Mugs Pub on 15th Avenue, PinBar on 17th Avenue, The King's Head on Macleod Trail, Brewsters at both Lake Bonavista and McKenzie Towne, and Bowness Pub out in the northwest. Tuesday follows with six options built around the 17th Avenue corridor. The Ship & Anchor and The Unicorn on 4 sit within blocks of each other, joined by High Line Brewing in Inglewood, The Cat 'n Fiddle on 16th Avenue NW, Tailgunner Brewing in Sunalta, and Blowers & Grafton in the deep southeast. Thursday is quieter but consistent. Browns Socialhouse locations in both Mount Royal Village and Britannia run 7:30 starts, plus Moose's Beanery in the north, Fionn MacCool's at CrossIron Mills, and St. Louis Bar & Grill. The Blowers & Grafton location in the Shawville area pulls double duty with both Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and Calgary even has weekend options. Boston Pizza locations in Seton and Westhills host Friday and Saturday evening games, respectively, filling a gap that most cities leave empty.
