Durham's trivia scene is what happens when a city full of researchers, grad students, and startup types decides it needs a competitive outlet that doesn't require running shoes. Twenty-one active venues serve the Bull City, and the brewery-to-bar ratio skews heavily toward taprooms. Fitting for a town where craft beer culture and quiz night culture grew up side by side. The company presence is light and scattered. Geeks Who Drink runs at Ponysaurus Brewing on Hood Street, one of Durham's favorite breweries. Not Rocket Science Trivia hosts at DSSOLVR Durham on Rigsbee Avenue. Hammered Trivia runs Gizmo Brew Works on Shannon Road, and Mindless Minutia Trivia takes Sundays at Atomic Clock Brewing on Washington Street. That's four companies across four venues. The remaining 17 rooms run their own shows. Those independent nights are where Durham's personality shows. Fizzwerks on Ramseur Street in the warehouse district is the city's trivia workhorse, running three nights a week: Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. Durty Bull Brewing on Broadway pulls double duty with Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings. The downtown core around Foster and Main Streets is thick with options. Boxcar Bar + Arcade on Mondays, Pour Taproom and Hi-Wire Brewing Durham on Wednesdays, Bull McCabe's with an 8:30 PM late start also on Wednesday. The Ninth Street corridor near Duke contributes Flying Bull Taproom for Wednesdays. Wednesdays are the biggest night overall with seven venues firing, and Thursdays follow closely with six, including Lakewood Social, The Velvet Hippo's late 8:30 start, and Clouds Brewing in Brightleaf Square.
