Richmond's trivia market is one of the most company-dominated in the country, and the company doing the dominating is Ball of Fire Entertainment. With 24 venues, roughly half the city's 46 active locations, they've built a trivia empire that stretches from downtown Richmond to Ashland, Short Pump, and deep into Midlothian. If you're playing organized pub trivia in the Richmond metro, odds are good it's a Ball of Fire night. Their reach is staggering. Scott's Addition gets The Veil and Ruff Canine Club on Wednesdays, plus Bingo Beer Co running both Tuesday and Thursday. The Fan has PBR and 821 Cafe. Midlothian alone has five Ball of Fire venues including SportsPage, Caddy's, Wong's Tacos, Shooters, and Game Plan Kitchen & Bar (which also runs Tuesday and Thursday). They've even landed the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for a Thursday quiz. Not many trivia companies can claim a state art museum on their roster. Beyond Ball of Fire, Challenge Entertainment books three venues including Mellow Mushroom in Carytown and Station 2 on East Main. SPRK Trivia holds Benchtop Brewing in Manchester and Richbrau Brewing, while Geeks Who Drink, High Five Trivia, Far Out Trivia, Pub Trivia USA, and Trivia Kings each have single venues. The independent scene is smaller but meaningful, concentrated in the neighborhoods where Richmond's brewery culture runs deepest. Strangeways Brewing in Scott's Addition, Väsen Brewing Company on West Moore Street, Three Notch'd Brewing on West Broad, and The Answer Brewpub all host their own nights without a company behind them. Buddy's Place on North Sheppard is one of the few venues running three nights a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Wednesday is the biggest night overall with about 15 options, and Tuesday is close behind. Monday has a solid showing too, especially through Ball of Fire's suburban locations and a few craft beer spots like Starr Hill Beer Hall in Scott's Addition.
