Rockford's trivia is bigger than you'd guess for a mid-sized Illinois city. Scanlan's and Culinary Underground both go Monday evenings, a solid one-two punch along Main Street to open the week, and The GOAT Pub and Grill picks up Tuesday at 6:30. Challenge Entertainment brings a second organized option with two rooms: Oscar's Pub & Grill on East State for Wednesdays and Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom next door on Tuesdays. But the independents outnumber the companies here, and they're what give Rockford its quirky, neighborhood-bar character. Ernie's Midtown Pub is a Tuesday stalwart on 5th Avenue. Rural on Tap and Screw City Tavern fill out that loaded Tuesday card, and The Olympic Tavern on North Main holds down Wednesday. Thursday has a three-venue stretch of its own: Bourbon Street Lounge on Perryville Road, The Detour Bar & Grill in Loves Park, and The Mill Saloon up in Machesney Park.
